Thomas Barronton, Sr.

Thomas Edward Barronton, 93, of Valley Grande, passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday, October 1, 2019. Mr. Barronton, a native of Albany, Georgia and the son of the late Aaron Reese Barronton and Selma Lord Barronton.
A lifelong musician, he played trumpet in a dance band while still in high school and served as a bugle master in the United States Navy during World War II. In 1949 he married the love of his life, Nancy Vann Barronton, with whom he enjoyed over seventy years of love and laughter. Mr. Barronton had resided in the Selma area since 1965. Until his retirement in 1991 he was the co-owner and manager of the Selma Oil Mill. He was a member of Church Street United Methodist Church for over fifty years where he met some of his closest friends, including his beloved dinner club. He will be remembered by his family and friends for his sharp fashion sense, his quick wit, his love of fishing, music, and Auburn football.
He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Nancy Barronton; son, Tom Barronton and daughter-in-law, Mary of Montevallo; daughter, Jill Barronton and son-in-law, Jan Netherland of Panama City, FL; and grandson, Josh Barronton of Montevallo.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Aaron Resse and Selma Lord Barronton; and brothers, Harold and Reese Barronton.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, October 4, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. from the Selma Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Reba Wiley and Josh Barronton officiating.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service on Friday at the funeral home.
A private burial will follow.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorials be made to the Church Street United Methodist Church of Selma or the charity of your choice.
