Richard Seibel

July 6, 1934 — August 29, 2020

Richard Jerome Seibel age 86 of Selma passed away Saturday, August 29, 2020. He was born July 6, 1934 in Bowden, North Dakota. Upon high school graduation Richard attended Valley State College in North Dakota where he played football, before joining the United States Air Force where he served his country for 8 years during the Vietnam War. He then enjoyed a 40 year career with the United States Post Office. A natural athlete, Richard played all sports, particularly baseball.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Bud and Jean Seibel and a brother Donald.
He is survived by his loving wife of almost 60 years, Joan Blair Seibel; daughter Barbara White (husband Mark) and grandsons Sam, Drue (Mattie), Alec (Brittany) and John, and great grandson Lawson, and sister in law Jeanne Blair Perkins and brother in law Buddy Perkins.
Richard was an active member, deacon and deacon emeritus with First Baptist Church of Selma where he also enjoyed being a member of the Maverick Sunday School class.
A true outdoorsman, some of Richard's favorite times were spent in a deer stand or in a fishing boat; in his earlier years fishing in the Gulf of Mexico and in his later years in the fresh water lakes of Alabama. Of course anyone who knew Richard, knew his passion for Alabama football as he would either join his brother in law Buddy in the stands of Bryant Denny or watch from his recliner in later years and loved yelling, 'touchdown Alabama,' as he watched Alabama win 9 national championships during this time.
A memorial service will be held at Selma Funeral Home at 2pm on Monday, August 31, 2020 with Dr. Kenneth Fields and Dr. Jerry Light officiating.
The family will receive friends on Monday from 1:30 PM until 2 PM at the funeral home.
Please practice social distancing while attending the service and wear a facial covering.
Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Maverick Sunday School class.
In lieu of flowers, the family has asked for donations to be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
Final care and arrangements have been entrusted to the Selma Funeral Home.
