Paul Watson

April 26, 1932 — January 4, 2021

Paul C. Watson, Jr. age 88, of Selma passed away on Monday, January 4, 2021 at Park Place Nursing Home in Selma.
Born in Athens, Tennessee in 1932, he was the son of the late Paul C. Watson, Senior and Ruth Firestone Watson. He lived in numerous east Tennessee locations as his father pastored churches in the area. He graduated from Alcoa High School in Alcoa, Tennessee and served in the Navy during the Korean War. While on Christmas leave he married Dorothy (Dot) Reagan Watson in 1951 and this began a marriage relationship that continued until Dot passed way in 2013. The marriage produced two children, Debbie (Monk) Moore and Randy (Cindy) Watson; three grandchildren, Rodney (Kelly Anne) Moore, Shelby (Jordan) Granthum, and Angie (Jordan) Webb; and three great-grandchildren, Cooper Moore, Laura Lee Moore, and Palmer Webb.
After his discharge from the Navy, Paul worked various construction jobs until he landed a position at Bowaters Paper Company in Calhoun, Tennessee. The Pulp and Paper industry proved to be his destined career path. In 1966 he moved the family to Selma, Alabama as a member of the start up team for Hammermill Paper Company's Riverdale plant. He worked his way up to the position of Tour Foreman over the span of four decades until he retired in the mid 90's.
Because of his east Tennessee roots, Paul was an avid University of Tennessee sports fan and always wore his orange colors proudly. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and an avid bass fisherman. In addition, he was very dedicated to the various churches he served and filled numerous Bible teaching roles in spite of is rotating shift work . He was a member of the Northside Baptist Church in Selma and later in life he was a member of the Sister Springs Baptist Church in Tyler, Alabama and cherished the fellowship and love of that community.
At the time of his passing, Paul was a resident of Cedar Hill Assisted Living and the family wishes to extend our sincere thanks to the staff and residents of Cedar Hill for making Paul's final years a time of love and fellowship.
Due to Covid-19 considerations, a graveside, family-only service will be conducted. Plans for a memorial service for Paul will be announced in the future.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made to Gideons International, Samaritan's Purse, or Sister Springs Baptist Church.
Final care and arrangements have been faithfully entrusted to Selma Funeral Home.
