Mary "Sue" Ingram Box

July 22, 1945 — January 17, 2024

Mary "Sue" Ingram Box, age 78 of Summerfield, formerly of Pleasant Hill, entered into her Heavenly home on Wednesday, January 17, 2024, after a brief illness. 

She retired from the UAB Selma Family Medicine, where she was a certified medical assistant for years and later worked with the residency program. 

SuSu, as she was called by her grandchildren, was longtime member of Elkdale Baptist Church. She was a former member of Mt. Pleasant Presbyterian Church, where she served as the first female elder in the church, sang in the choir, and taught Sunday School for over 20 years. She was an avid reader and loved to study her bible. 

She is preceded in death by her husband, Edgar E. "Butch" Box; her parents, James Monroe Ingram and Marie Jordan Ingram; brothers; James Monroe "Jimmy" Ingram and Daniel Lee "Danny" Ingram.

She is survived by her daughter, Melanie B. (Jimbo) Mitchell; son, Kelly E. (Shea) Box; son, Kevin Box; grandchildren, Brooke Mitchell, Tara Brooke Mathews, Eric Box, Lane Warren, and Ashley Warren; great-grandchildren, Mary Cole Mitchell, Hollis Hinson, Hudson Mathews, Reid Smitherman, Ella Warren, and Kinley Lee; brothers, Robert W. Ingram and Lewis Keith Ingram; sisters, Rosa M. Turner and Clara Anne Ingram; and numerous nieces and nephews. 

A celebration of Sue's life will be held on Monday, Janaury 22, 2024 at 11:30 a.m. from the Ocmulgee Baptist Church with Rev. Bill Goodwin and Rev. Guy Anderson officiating.

A private family bural will take place at the Mt. Pleasant Presbyterian Church Cemetery.

The family will recieve friends one hour prior to the service on Monday at the the Ocmulgee Baptist Church beginning at 10:30 a.m..

In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to the Mt. Pleasant Presbyterian Church Cemetery Fund or to Franklin Graham's Samaritan's Purse, of which she was an avid supporter.  

Final care and arrangements have been entrusted to the Selma Funeral Home of Valley Grande, Alabama.
