Jessie Haskett Justice passed away on August 18, 2020. She was 97 years old. Always one to offer a smile and a sweet chuckle, she was a beloved resident at Park Place Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Selma, Alabama where she had lived for the past 12 years. Jessie was born in 1923 in Sylva North Carolina. In 1941, she married Norman L Trotter, Sr in Pickens, South Carolina. While living in Sullivan's Island, SC, her husband died in an auto accident and she was left to raise two young boys on her own. At age 26, she moved her boys to Brevard, North Carolina where she worked several jobs including a job as a cashier at A & P Supermarket. In 1967, she married Mickey Justice and they were together 35 years until his death in 2003.
After residing in Brevard for 55 years, Jessie moved to Selma with son Norm and daughter-in-law Jaclyn, moving into Park Place in 2008. Although Jessie had many friends and acquaintances there, it was her roommate over the past several years, Emma Purdie, that has been a source of friendship, companionship and comfort for Jessie during their time together.Always recognized for her sharp wit and impressive memory, Jessie would often regale friends and family with stories from her youth and recollections of family memories long past. Her firm but gentle handshake and warm hugs were enjoyed by all those fortunate enough to be in her presence. Her laughter was contagious and will certainly be missed in the halls of Park Place as well as the hearts of those who knew and loved her.Jessie is preceded in death by mother Stella, step-mother Bertha, father John Parker Haskett; husbands Norman and Mickey; brothers Lunie and Furman; sisters Alma, Lydia, Betty, Bessie, Julia, Jane. She is survived by brother Parker (Carol Ann) Haskett , sisters Jo Anders, Shirley (William) Elrod, Fran (Leon) Wood and Reba (Donnie) Chastain; sons Norm (Jaclyn) Trotter, Gary (Pat) Trotter; grandchildren Katie (Keith)Bodiford, Jenny (Sean) Gloer, Rick (Jenny) Agee, Brad (Cathleen)Trotter, Holly (Matthew) Oakley, Sean Nix (Amalia Griffin), Austin (Emily) Trotter; great-grandchildren Alden Gloer, Daniel Bodiford, Jacob Bodiford, Riley Trotter, Talon Trotter, Emerson Oakley, Gracie Oakley, Cole Nix, Bailey Trotter, Ava Grace Trotter, Shelby Agee, Jennifer Melton and Peyton Agee; special great-great grandchildren Skylar Melton, Jackson Agee, Landon Agee, Rylan Melton and Addy Agee and many dear nieces and nephews.
A private family service will be held later in North Carolina.
