Grace Serman

August 31, 1935 — August 17, 2020

Grace Holloman Serman received the ultimate healing on August 17, 2020 at the age of 84.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Carroll C. Serman, Jr.; parents, Freddie R. Holloman, Sr. and Evelyn Smith Holloman of Sumter, South Carolina; brother, Fred Holloman, Jr. of Walterboro, South Carolina; and grandson, Luke Serman of Valley Grande, Alabama.
Grace is survived by her sisters, Bernice (Norman) Felder, Frances (Joe) Mims, brother, Glenn (Elinor) Holloman, sister-in-law Shirley Holloman all of South Carolina; children, Chris (Jerri) Serman of Tyler, AL, Bobby (Kelly) Serman of Wetumpka, AL, Jerry (Mary) Serman of Tuscaloosa, AL, and Larry (Terri) Serman of Jacksonville, FL; Grandchildren, Clint Serman of Jacksonville, FL, Mallory Serman of Bon Secour, AL, Lauren (Jason) Prince, of Hayward, WI, Amber (Davey) Lyon of Tyler, AL, Haley (Adam) Mott of Tuscaloosa, AL, Chase Serman of Jacksonville, FL, Sarah Serman (Jacob Young) of Wetumpka, AL, and John Serman of Tuscaloosa, AL, and 14 great-grandchildren.
Upon graduating high school, she entered nursing school at Tuomey Hospital where she received her nursing degree. Later that year she married the love of her life and embarked on the adventurous life of an Air Force wife. Their travels included Japan, Canada, New York, South Carolina (while Carroll was in Vietnam for a year), and two stops in Alabama where they later retired. During all this Grace was busy raising the boys and putting her nursing skills to good use, both at work and home. Her last Nursing job was at Vaughan Hospital where she worked in the ICU.
In 1982 Grace suffered from a ruptured aneurysm in the speech area of her brain. She fought back from the effects of her surgery spending years in speech and physical therapy. Throughout this and in the coming years Grace taught everyone an abundance of lessons - face every day with a smile on your face, never give up, giving to others makes you feel better, and family is everything, to name a few. Despite being unable to attend church, she loved watching different services on TV, listening to the sermons dropped off by the Homebound Ministry and worshipping through music. Although Grace had many physical limitations, the ways she showed love to her family was limitless.
The family would like to thank Addie Clifton, Betty Gilbert, Destiny Hatcher, Erica Hatcher, Verdell Howard, and Barbara Merchant for the wonderful care they have given Grace the last eighteen months. A special thank you goes to Kristi Englett for the years of loving care and companionship extended to Grace.
Visitation will be Thursday, August 20, 2020 from 1-2 pm at Sister Springs Baptist Church. A private Service for the family will be held at 2:00 pm Thursday, August 20, 2020 at Sister Springs Baptist Church with Rev. Robert Bayne and Rev. Davey Lyon officiating.
