David Lyon, Sr.

July 13, 1922 — September 18, 2020

David Middleton Lyon, Sr. a lifetime resident of Lowndes County, AL, born July 13, 1922 and passed away on September 18, 2020, at the age of 98 years old.
He is preceded in death by his beloved wife Virginia Lewis Lyon; his parents Frank and Carrie Lyon; one brother, Edward Lyon ; three sisters, Rosa Lyon Traylor, Ellen Lyon Coker and Kate Lil Hagerman and his daughter in law Janice Pugh Lyon.
He is survived by two sons William Edwin Lyon (Linda) and David Middleton Lyon, Jr.; four grandchildren Natalie Lyon Johnson (Glenn), William Mealing Lyon (Kim), David Middleton Lyon III (Amber) and Travis Harrison Lyon (Vanessa) and ten great-grandchildren, Miranda Johnson Davis (Alex), Laura Johnson, Will Lyon, Cale Lyon, Kathryn Lyon, David Lyon, Sawyer Lyon, Grace Lyon, January Lyon and Lawson Lyon.
He was a Sunday School teacher and a Deacon at Benton Baptist Church for many years. His life was lived as a humble man who put the love of God, family, church and community first in his life. He was a big Auburn fan who was honored as being the oldest living AU football player in 2013 at the Auburn-Alabama game and he was a World War II veteran. He was affectionately known as Ga-Ga by many, especially his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
A private family graveside service will be held at Benton Baptist church with Reverend Davey Lyon and Reverend Lee Tate officiating.
Pallbearers will be grandsons and sons in law.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that any donation be made to Benton Baptist Church.
Many thanks to Ann Burke and Verdell Howard who took care of him for several years and to the employees at Orchard Healthcare where he was a resident since January.
Final care and arrangements have been entrusted to the Selma Funeral Home.
