To view the Memorial Tribute Video click,VIEW VIDEOD. P. Jowers, age 90, formerly of Selma, AL, passed into eternal rest on October 20, 2009 at his daughter's home in Alabaster, AL.
He was a loving father, husband and provider for his family. He professed Christ at an early age and served faithfully as a Deacon and Sunday School teacher at Valley Grande Baptist Church (formerly Central Baptist) for over fifty years. He cherished the love of his life, Marjorie Jowers, with whom he spent sixty-five years plus together before her death in 2008.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, Troy, Percy (Hallie), Irving and Milton Jowers and a great-granddaughter, Emily Alexis Thomas.
Surviving Mr. Jowers are his son, Ronald (Maudis) Jowers; daughters, Glenda J. (Cliff) Osburn and Cheryl J. (Dan) Olinger; nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Friday, October 23, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at Valley Grande Baptist Church. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 10-11:00 a.m. Interment will be in Pineview Memory Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Phillip Jowers, Barry Jowers, Dan Olinger, Dewayne Osburn, Cecil Barnes and Rayburn Anderson. Honorary pallbearers will be James Bearden's Sunday School Class, Cliff Osburn, Thomas "Tom" Barnes, Billy Rogers, Gary Mayton, John T. Baxter, Kenneth Baxter, Richard Barnes and Dr. Parke Chittom, Sr.
His primary occupation was a self-employed grocer and he had a passion for the outdoors. His hobbies were hunting, raising cattle, gardening and spending time with his grandchildren.
In his later years, his health began declining and his daughter, Glenda became his caregiver in her home.
